History

The history of THP began when the Department of Agricultural Product Technology was opened in the Faculty of Agriculture (FP), Universitas Brawijaya (UB) in 1975. The establishment of this Department was intended to develop disciplines related to post-harvest handling of agricultural products. Based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 0211/U/1982, since 1982 this institution has been officially designated as one of the majors under FP-UB, in charge of the THP study program and study interest (MS) Agricultural Mechanization. In 1984, based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 118/DIKTI/Lap/84, the name of the THP department was changed to the TP Department which manages two PS, namely Agricultural Product Technology Study Program (THP) and Agricultural Mechanization Study Program (MP).

PS THP then became the Department of THP by managing the PS S1 Food Science and Technology with a decree. Director General of Higher Education: No. 225/Dikti/Kep/1996, then the PS S1 Biotechnology was added with the Decree of the Ministry of Education and Culture No. 595/E/O/2014 dated October 17, 2014. In addition to the 2 undergraduate programs, the THP Department also has a master’s degree program in Agricultural Products Technology with Decree No. 1504/D/T/2007 dated June 22, 2007 and PS S3 Doctoral Food Science with the Decree of the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education No. 448/KPT/I/2017 dated August 21, 2017 . PS S1 ITP changed to S1 Food Technology based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture No. 951/M/2020 (although in the DIKTI database the name PS is still Food Science and Technology).

The S1, S2 and S3 programs in the THP Department have received accreditation from BAN-PT. PS S1 ITP is accredited A and has received international certification from the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), starting from 2012, and the latest certificate is from 2020-2025. PS S1 Biotechnology is accredited A, PS S2 THP is accredited A and S3 Food Science is accredited B because it is still new.

The Department of Agricultural Products Technology manages several laboratories, namely the Laboratory of Chemistry and Biochemistry of Food and Agricultural Products, Laboratory of Processing and Process Engineering of Food and Agricultural Products, Laboratory of Microbiology of Food and Agricultural Products, Laboratory of Food Nutrition and Agricultural Products, Laboratory of Biotechnology for Food and Agricultural Products Industry and Laboratory Sensory.
